About This Material

A porous, layered travertine with an aged, rustic character; pores may be left open or filled. Supplier-declared properties Bulk density 2.30～2.55 g/cm³. Dry compressive strength 35～60 MPa; flexural strength 3.5～7 MPa. Water absorption 2.0%～4.5%, stated as higher than ordinary marble because of the porous structure. Mohs hardness 2～3; relatively soft. Mineral class: limestone (carbonate rock). Characteristics Natural pores are characteristic; open-pore and resin-filled treatments look different. Porosity makes the stone prone to staining and efflorescence; enhanced sealing is required. Easy to cut and shape, but porous areas are weak; reinforce slabs during handling and installation. Carbonate stone is acid-sensitive; outdoor use may lead to freeze-thaw damage, whitening, and weathering. Applications Feature walls in villas, entrances, hotel/club lobbies, and corridor art walls. Indoor bars and reception counters only with resin-filled pores and multi-layer sealing; dining tables are not recommended. Low-traffic indoor floors, preferably filled and protected. Artistic architectural elements, shaped walls, and curved cladding. Care Fill pores and apply enhanced sealing; source specifies factory pore filling plus six-face protection. Avoid acids.
